SA: Police on footy final alert after brawl at Ceduna hotel
Police in the Great Australian Bight are on standby amid concerns local football finals may
spark a repeat of a brawl which occurred at a Ceduna hotel this morning.
Acting sergeant at Ceduna Police Station PAUL HEAFT says there's certainly no love lost
between the two teams which played in the football semifinal matches today.
The disturbance at Ceduna, 792 km north-west of Adelaide, occurred during the early hours
of the morning when five visitors to the town were assualted by up to 100 local hotel patrons.
Police called to attend the incident were also targeted by the rock-hurling locals.
As the visitors attempted to drive away from the hotel, they ran into a 15-year old boy and
a 22-year man, who was transferred to Adelaide with serious head injuries.
Acting sergeant HEAFT says while one man has been charged with three counts of assault,
police are still waiting to speak to a second man believed to be involved in the incident.
The driver of the visitor's vehicle has been charged with drink-driving offences.
