FED: PLAN launches Kosovo crisis appeal

Aid and development organisation PLAN International Australia has launched an emergency
appeal to provide urgent relief for the victims of the Kosovo crisis.

PLAN Australia aims to raise around $40,000 for temporary shelter, food and medical
supplies for the thousands of expelled ethnic Albanian refugees streaming from Kosovo.

PLAN Australia president WENDY McCARTHY says it's the biggest movement of refugees since
the Second World War.

PLAN, which runs long-term development projects and child sponsorship programs in 43
countries, experiences constant difficulty operating in Albania due to the country's extreme
poverty and political instability.

PLAN spokesman SCOTT CRIGHTON says Albania is unable to cope with the massive influx of
refugees and is relying on the rest of the world for assistance.
