Qld: Dog rescued from a Brisbane fire by Sheepdog
BRISBANE, Aug 9 AAP - A silky terrier-cross dog was rescued from a Brisbane house firetoday by a firefighter ironically nicknamed Sheepdog.
The pup was home alone when a mattress and bed caught alight on the ground floor ofthe two-storey house in Manly West at about 12.55pm (AEST).
Firefighters were called to the residence after neighbours and a smoke alarm alerted authorities.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service senior operations coordinator Ian Ames said thedog was trapped on the second floor, with smoke billowing out of the windows, when itsknight-in-shining-armour - fireman Glen Somer, otherwise known as Sheepdog - arrived.
It is not yet determined what caused the fire, which caused $2,000 damage to the home.
