Commercial data traffic exchange platform.(Premiere: latest products and services)(Equinix Inc.)(Brief Article)

Equinix has expanded its GigE Exchange service to ISPs and content providers in southeast Asia.

The service, which facilitates ISP and content peering, is now available in the Equinix Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center in Singapore. Microsoft last month became the first customer to use the service.

Equinix says the GigE exchange allows ISPs to reduce the costs of establishing connections to each other in multiple locations by establishing a more direct route to end-users.

For large ISPs, the platform enables them to gain access to a significant aggregation of potential transit customers, including smaller ISPs, within a centralized location, the company adds.

"By utilizing the service, enterprises, content providers, carriers and ISPs can directly connect to each other via a convenient and flexible central switching fabric," Equinix says. "This streamlined connectivity improves end-to-end network performance, reducing latency and packet loss, as well as lowering overall IP transit costs."
